It is with deep sadness that we pay our respects to Father Matthew Baker. Fr. Matthew passed away yesterday evening in a car accident during a snow storm. He was returning from Holy Trinity Parish of Norwich, CT, to which he had only recently been assigned. His children, who were traveling with him at the time, were thankfully not injured.
All those who knew Father Matthew, credit him as being a kind, warmhearted man, deeply knowledgeable in and devoted to his Orthodox faith. We would like to offer a beautiful reflection written by Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick, originally posted to Ancient Faith, which you can read HERE.
Father Matthew is survived by his wife, the Presbytera Katherine and their six children: Isaac (12), Elias (10), George (8), Ellie (6), Cyril (4) and Matthew (2). In reposing, Fr. Matthew has joined a stillborn son Alexis, who reposed a few weeks ago. We encourage all our readers to go to this site, which has been
set up by a friend to support the family, to donate as much as you are able, and to keep his family in your prayers.
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”
– Matthew 25:23
May his memory be eternal!
