Our Metropolis Clergy: Support Fr. Anthony Salzman’s Indonesian Mission!

Dear Friends,

Fr. Anthony Salzman and Fr. Lazarus are old friends from Seminary.  Fr. Lazarus is the first Orthodox Clergy ordained in Indonesia.  Fr. Anthony studied Byzantine Iconography and Byzantine Art History in Greece for 6 years.  They both now serve small parishes and both have grown sons Hosea and Dionysios (Fr. Lazarus) and Stephanos and Maximos (Fr. Anthony).  Fr. Anthony and Presbytera Christine have become very close to Hosea and Dionysios over the years because they have both come to the United States to study.  Hosea graduated with an undergrad degree in Theology from Hellenic College last year and is seeking to serve the Church in Indonesia as the “next generation.”   Dionysios is studying Fine Art at Berea college in Kentucky and is spending his summers with Fr. Anthony learning Iconography in order to go back to Indonesia and serve the Church as an Iconographer.  Stephanos has studied Theology in Thessaloniki Greece for 4 years and is currently serving an internship at the Patriarchate.  Maximos is compleating his undergrad in Fine Art at UGA in Athens, Ga and is also learning Iconography.

So you can see their family and spiritual paths are intertwined.  With this in mind, Father Anthony will be traveling to Indonesia with the ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN MISSION CENTER this summer for the Annual Orthodox Gathering in Medan, Indonesia. He will teach and conduct a seminar on Iconography with their local artists. He will be visiting three communities, Yogia Karta, Bali, and Medan leading teams in each area.

This is a recent development and depends if he can raise the funding for the travel and extra art supplies. The Medan event was reschedueled for a week later— which made it logical for Father to then consider going to Bali, between his time in Yogykarta and Medan.   Yogykarta is where Hosea and Fr. Lazarus and his family live and they are hosting a retreat with 100 people. Bali is a remote area far from the other Orthodox churches and would greatly benefit from having a mission priest during their summer retreat.

Anything you can contribute this week or next will help us get closer to this goal.  We will be purchasing airline tickets in a few days and it would be great to plan for the extended itinerary.  God knows all our needs and we are ever hopeful for miracles!

Costs are $4500 so any amount will help us reach this goal,
