This is the way we should see Christ. He is our friend, our brother; He is whatever is good and beautiful. He is everything. Yet, He is still a friend and He shouts it out, “You’re my friends, don’t you understand that? We’re brothers. …I don’t hold hell in my hands. I am not threatening you. I love you. I want you to enjoy life together with me.
Think of the most saintly person you know. What is attractive about that person? What makes other people want to be near them?
We’re called to become more Christlike but too often we forget what Christ is like.
Take a few moments and list a few of the attributes that drew you to want to be a follower of Christ.
What kind of person did you just describe?
God’s love for us is greater than we can ever comprehend and that is where we can find our heart’s deepest comfort, because He understands us, guides us, and reaches out to us with perfect love- but too often we see Him as scary, scolding or distant.
Lord, help me to remember the hopefulness, joy, and peace I felt when I first sought You and to be able to open my heart to Your love.
