One Good Thought: Our Sins are Grains of Sand

As a handful of sand thrown into the ocean, so are the sins of all flesh as compared with the mind of God.” —St. Isaac The Syrian

Those sins which loom so large in our minds in the middle of the night and feel inescapable because we’ve forgotten that sin is not part of us, but outside of us; even those monster sins are just weak and tiny specks in comparison with God’s love, understanding and mercy.

It doesn’t feel that way, but by the work and grace of true repentance, it’s true. Our sins feel like impassible mountain of rock, but St. Isaac says all of our sins put together are but a handful of grains of sand thrown in the ocean when compared with the mind of God.

Lord, help me to trust you and seek your help when I feel overwhelmed with the things I do that I wish I didn’t do. Help me to truly repent and let go of my sins, putting my hope and trust in You.
