“Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness” We possess the one by creation, we acquire the other by free will.
+ St. Basil the Great
Saint Basil the Great tells us that God has created us in His image, but then we can freely choose to become like Him, to grow into His likeness.
We are created in the image of God; we have His nature within us, a spark of His ineffable glory and beauty. Each of us has this–hence that gnawing longing for “something more”.
But what is “more”? Is it more stuff, more power, more gratification? Or is that something more a longing that will only be satisfied by heaven, by the presence of God with us.
Lord, help me to remember that You lovingly created me in Your image and to strive to become more and more like You.
