These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
– John 16:33
This Orthodox Church in Kiev looks really old, doesn’t it? Actually, the communists demolished it less than 100 years ago and it has recently been rebuilt. Everywhere in Kiev there are beautiful new but ancient looking Orthodox churches reminding us all of faith’s ultimate triumph over the world’s oppression.
Jesus tells us that we should expect troubles, suffering, and distress in this life. He also says, don’t get caught up in these problems, be at peace- He has overcome the world. We can have peaceful hearts, even when sorrow, danger, and fear are afflicting us.
Sometimes we go through dark times that don’t get fixed easily, but Christ walks with us and He helps us find joy and faith even as we struggle. Somedays, without knowing it, His love in us shines like a beautiful golden domed church, showing God’s glory to others and giving them hope, too.
Lord, help me to have Your peace as I trust You.
