One Good Thought: God’s Plans

Of all evil suggestions, the most evil is that of following one’s own heart, that is to say, following one’s own thought, and not the law of God. A man who does this will be afflicted later on because he has not recognized the mystery, and he has not found the way of the saints in order to walk in it.

“Follow your heart” is a phrase heard so often it’s just accepted as truth. We seldom stop to question the assumption that our hearts are capable of dreaming so big and so true that we should follow them instead of following God.

Is the purpose of our life to express our own talents and individuality? Is our purpose to do what we want to do and be who we want to be? Will the things our heart desires really satisfy us, or does the heart tell sweet lies?

Life is an eternal mystery that is beyond the scope of our imagination. God’s plans for us are much bigger and better than our plans for ourselves and if we follow Him, He will fulfill the longings of our hearts here and in the life to come.

Lord, help me to follow your precepts, not my own understanding, as I walk the path you’ve set before me. Thank you for the amazing plans you have for me.
