One Good Thought: Getting Along with Others

We cannot live in such a way that no one grieves or offends us, for the Apostle Luke writes: we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God (Acts 14:22), and bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ (Gal. 6:2).
+ St. Hilarion of Optina

It can be hard to get along with others. We eat with someone who smacks their lips; or have a sibling who borrows our things without asking; or maybe someone just gets on our nerves and we’re just mad at them.

These things give us an opportunity to deal with each other in mercy, to be graceful, to bear each other’s burdens through love, knowing that we ourselves are the first of all smackers–um, I mean sinners.

Lord, help me to have compassion for those who offend me, knowing that I too need Your mercy.
