Our lives are filled with noise. Our environment contains unavoidable stimuli — music and television at restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores. We have the ability to fill in the cracks with our radios, streaming internet, and screens all over our house.
As a mom, it’s easy to forget that our life has a high baseline of noise. We have all of the environmental noise, and then the noise of our children’s needs.
So, seek silence.
This may mean that you have to close the door.
This may mean that you have to close your eyes and take a deep breath while everyone is screaming.
It may mean you have to ask your partner to help you carve out new expectations.
But it’s good work to seek silence. The empty space is where nurturing, thinking, problem-solving, peace, and God can speak.
