I learned vocal warm-up techniques and a simple song when I took voice lessons briefly as a teenager. I never thought it would come back into my life with such strange usefulness.
One of the warm-ups is a simple, short song. It ascends and descends gently. It takes barely one minute. But it helps me to remember that I’m breathing. And even if the song isn’t explicitly about God, it helps me to remember that God’s love is truly all there is, and that He is all I need.
Because one of the things that rears its ugly head in my life is anxiety. I’ve come to know the sensations of panic when they come. And so I sing. And underneath the song, I can pray.
