Healthy Minds, Healthy Souls: Seek Joy

I saw an image on television today of what looked like a tantalizing dessert, the caption that followed was, “This is happiness.”

I thought for a moment, “is that happiness?” Well perhaps. The first bite for sure, maybe the subsequent few that follow. After that, we are likely satiated on the taste and only eating out of rote compulsion. The happiness fades quickly. Then we return to our lives again and everything that was there previously stressing us out is still there. A short lived change.

While there are many things that bring us a state of happiness, what I have come to realize is that true joy can only be achieved by a constant state of striving for it; Looking for it, making time for the things that we know keep us happy and balanced, opening our hearts and our eyes to the opportunities to experience it, and once felt, coming back to a place of knowing you can achieve it again.

Today, seek to bring joy to your life in ways that last, take care of the body and soul you were born into, love others unconditionally, judge a little less, and leave a positive memory in the world you exist in. God has designed us to feel joy when we take care of our bodies and our souls; and in doing so, we equip ourselves with the lasting ability to give that love back to the world around us. Here in lies the cycle of seeking happiness that lasts.

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full,” John 15:11
