Healthy Minds, Healthy Souls: Resolutions

Coming into the holiday season always reminds me that a new year is right around the corner. The new year always brings to mind the concept of making new starts, new beginnings and numerous resolutions.

For those of you who might have set resolutions in 2016, what were they? How are you doing with each one? For those of you who created a “vision board,” how are you doing with the steps you said you would take to feel the way you desired to feel? I heard once that resolutions have been in place for 3 thousand years and we predictably set them every year in January. I always thought this was a rather interesting concept. Why do we only set resolutions for improving our life in January? It seems that God designed us to be constantly renewed and constantly growing and reflecting on who we are versus who we could become. Life is a journey where every day is really a new opportunity to work toward becoming a better version of ourself.

Let us seek each day to do something better today, than we did yesterday. Let us seek each day to live out a value we hold dear to our hearts, even when it’s hard. Being our best self can be a philosophy and a resolution we commit to each day, knowing our minds are to be constantly renewed in Christ.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
